Although many sops in the centers of the big cities now stay open all day, you should not rely on this entirely. Throughout Italy, retail shops normally follow these opening hours:
Morning:
9.30 or 10.00 to 13.00 (1pm)
Afternoon
15.30 (3.30pm) or 16.00 (4pm) to 19.30 (7.30pm) or 20.00 (8pm).
Shopping malls are increasing in popularity however they are located quite outside the city centers and do not offer anything different from what you can find on the high streets in city centers.
Here are a few good shopping streets in the main cities: |
| Rome |
Luxury: Via dei Condotti, Via Frattina and all streets around the Spanish Steps
Consumer: Via Nazionale (between Piazza Venezia and Termini Station), Via Cola di Rienzo (near Vatican), Termini train station (the lower level is a full shopping mall – great for very hot or rainy days) |
| Florence |
Luxury: Via dei Calzaiouli, Ponte Vecchio (Jewelers)
Consumer: San Lorenzo Market (open daily) |
| Venice |
